Read this before you submit.
If you don't, your piece may be rejected!
We need you to meet the requirements below. If you have any questions, just send us an email. We only accept original work of current Calvin students. Pieces may not be previously published. You can only submit three pieces for each category. |
Writing
Writing pieces can be submitted as .doc, .docx, .txt, or .pdf files. The recommended maximum word count is 1,500. Edit and proofread your work. Submitters who fail to do so will receive lower ratings. We may ask you for an edit of your piece during layout. This does not mean you are guaranteed to be in the magazine. Your piece will be juried anonymously, so don't include your name anywhere in the piece or file name. |
Photos/Art
Photos and art can be submitted as .jpg or .pdf files. For landscape-oriented photos, the recommended minimum resolution is 4,575x3,075. For portrait-oriented photos, the recommended minimum resolution is 2,325x3,075. Your piece will be evaluated anonymously. We don't rate pieces based on the quality of visual art photographs, but unless we can get a high quality photograph of your piece at some point, we won't be able to publish it. If you need your work to be photographed, email us. |
Music
Original compositions can be submitted as .mp3, .aiff, or .wav files, limited to ten minutes. Your piece will be juried anonymously, so don't include your name anywhere in the title or file name. We don't necessarily rate pieces based on the quality of production, so don't worry if your demo isn't recorded perfectly. If accepted, your song will be added to a short mixtape of other accepted songs that will be made available for download. |
Film
Original short films can be submitted as .avi, .wav, .mp4, or .mov files, limited to fifteen minutes. We are unable to take films with copyrighted material in them. Your piece will be juried anonymously, so don't include your name anywhere in the title or file name. If accepted, your film will be added to a short playlist of other accepted films that will be made available for viewing on the Dialogue webpage. Proper credits will be included in the video's description. |
A final note
Don't freak out if you don't get in the first time. We get lots of great pieces and can only publish a few. Thanks for being part of Dialogue. Best of luck. |
